Uh Oh, AI!

I had the absolute pleasure of being the lead artist on Uh Oh, AI!, a phone game developed by myself and 5 other students over 2 months. The game follows Artie, an AI robot art student, who is bad at art and decides to steal from his peers to pass his classes. Our game is a match 3 game, like Candy Crush and Bejeweled, where every level is an art piece another classmate made. When you beat the level, you get Artie’s “AI” version of the piece. All of the AI art was made by my team and I, and no AI art was used in the making of our game.

Our biggest goal with this game was to make something for our families to play. We chose to make a match 3 game because our mothers, grandmothers, and other family members were familiar with them. As students, we make lots of small projects to learn, and a lot of time they aren’t polished or accessible enough for our loved ones to play. This game is a bit of a loved letter to our families, and a way to show them all that we’ve learned, in a way they can understand.

We also wanted to share an important message about AI art theft. AI art theft is something that directly impacts us as creatives, and we wanted to make a statement about it with our game. Especially considering our target demographic is an older one, who may not understand AI or its impacts on others.
